Year 7 celebrated National Poetry Day

4th October 2024

"Year 7 celebrated National Poetry Day on Thursday 3rd October by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest live poetry lesson! 128 St Michael's pupils joined the lesson with over 1,000 other schools from across the UK to write a collective poem on "What Counts?" with the poet Laura Mucha. You can read their final poem at The Children's Poetry Archive.

It should also be appearing in national newspapers and on billboards around the UK. We will hear if we helped to break the world record in the next few weeks!"

St Michael's staff celebrated National Poetry Day by reading poems to pupils throughout the school day. The poems were in many different languages (including Latin, French and Spanish); forms (including sonnets and haikus); and subjects (including love, cats, fitness, numbers, computer coding, families and more!) Poets featured came from many different countries including America, Japan, Scotland and Hungary and different eras spanning 34BCE to 2019! Poems are displayed throughout the school for pupils to continue to enjoy them for the rest of this half term!

Love one another, as I have loved you
